WEEKEND REWIND

I was home sick yesterday. I have a sore throat and aching ears. I went to the doctor and I got tested for strep throat. I doubt it’s that severe but better to be safe than sorry. I almost didn’t come in today either but since I don’t have any more sick days left, I forced myself to get out of my warm, comfy bed this morning. Anyhow, here’s a recap of my weekend.

Friday
We were supposed to meet my sister-in-law, her husband John and his family at Downtown Disney to celebrate John’s birthday but since it was raining on Friday, we ended up having Chinese take out at their house. It was a nice evening.

Saturday
I started taking our Christmas decorations out of the garage since it’s that time of the year again. I always love decorating for the holidays. It’s so much fun! And I hope to keep up the tradition when we have children so they can be in the spirit of the holidays too as they grow older. All we have left to do is put up our Christmas tree which we hope to buy this Sunday. Then, our little humble abode will be completed and ready for the holidays.

I had a hair appointment to get my highlights retouched at 2pm. Since I had plans that night, it was the perfect excuse to have my stylist curl my hair. It didn’t exactly last the entire night but I still felt cute and sassy. That night, I had my company Christmas party. I wasn’t exactly looking forward to it since we weren’t able to take anyone with us but it ended up being okay. I hadn’t planned on spending a lot of money on a holiday dress so I went to the one place that almost never fails…Forever 21. I found a simple dress for $22…can’t get any better than that! The party was held at Opera in Hollywood. We had a good time but I found that I was already bored at 9:30pm. It made for an early evening. I was home by 11pm.

The food was just okay. They had waiters passing around appetizers the whole evening. I found those to be better than the actual dinner. It was a little bland to me but everyone else seemed to enjoy it.
Dessert was much better in my opinion. Again, the waiters were passing around mini desserts at the end of the evening and I kid you not, I think I had like 8 mini desserts!

Here is my $22 dress...

On our way out the door, they were handing out a little giveaway. It ended up being Guess coasters. Uh, I don't really have a need for them, especially when the models on them are all female so my brother is going to be getting a new set of coasters for his house. :)

Sunday
I woke up on Sunday morning with a sore throat. Perhaps it was the fact that I didn’t wear a thick jacket on Saturday night when I went to the party. We had plans for the day so I just tried to ignore how I was feeling. Our friends Mike and Ruby got married in 2006 and bought a townhouse earlier this year in August. We had yet to see it so we drove down to Playa Vista and had lunch with them. Their place is beautiful. Ruby was sweet enough to make lunch for us…panini’s, a green salad and my favorite, butternut squash soup. It was delicious! After lunch, we walked down to see some model homes near their place. These places were unbelievable. I walked out with so many ideas for our future home. I don’t know when Gerric and I will finally get to say that we own our very own house but when we do, I know it will be right for us. I can’t wait.

After our little excursion, we headed back to their place and had dessert. Ruby made my favorite…bread pudding! It was amazing. In fact, I took some leftovers home. Bless her heart. After dessert, Mike was sweet enough to burn a CD for me with some of my favorite Christmas songs. I’ve been listening to it ever since and I love it. We had a wonderful time with them and I hope to see them again very soon. Thank you Mike and Ruby!

I’m meeting a girlfriend for dinner tonight so that should be fun. Now if only this darn earache would subside.
