BATHROOM REMODEL: BEFORE & AFTER

I have been very behind on my blogging. Gerric and I just got back from a wonderful weekend trip to Nevada visiting my best friend and her husband but before I blog about that, I have some catching up to do. I hope everyone's 4th was fun and safe!

When Gerric and I knew we were going to buy our house, we knew that we would first have to remodel the bathroom. Since it was a small house with only ONE bathroom, we knew that it had to at least be a bathroom that we loved. This gave us the opportunity to design something we would both be happy with...still however, working with the small space that we had.

The original bathroom wasn't horrible...it just wasn't my style and it was very outdated. We had met with a number of contractors to get estimates on what we wanted to do and they ranged from the mid $5,000's all the way up to over $13,000! We wanted something nice but we also wanted to save some money on this project so we went with the contractor that gave us a fair price and one that told us this project would be completed in 10 days.

It all started out okay...demolition started on the day he promised and got completed all in one day. Things continued pretty smoothly with the tile as well and I thought they were even ahead of schedule. Then all of a sudden, the work started to slow down and this guy started to make promises that he wouldn't keep! He promised he would complete something the next day and he just wouldn't even show up that day. My husband and I were both very frustrated and it got the point where we refused to give him ANY money until he completed our long to-do list 100%.

After 22 days, the job was completed and all in all, we were happy. There are certain things that we were not happy with but honestly, at that point, we just wanted him out of our house for good! Maybe it's just me being extremely meticulous about the details but he was sloppy with certain things and I even noticed that if we didn't tell him to do something specific, he probably wouldn't have done it. Would I recommend him...most likely NOT. He's a good person and he's okay at what he does, but I wouldn't want to share the frustration that we experienced with him with anyone else.

So tell me what you think. We wanted to go with something modern but remember, we only had so much space to work with! We got everything brand new. One of the things on my wish list was double sinks and luckily, we were able to have that. We also got new copper plumbing installed and a whirlpool tub.

Here are the before pictures...

This was after demo and after the new tub was installed. We moved in around day 10 so we weren't living there during demo but it was HELL when we moved in and we still didn't have a completed bathroom.

This was after the tile was completed. We went with tile inside the shower and alongside the tub. I wished the pattern we chose as the accent had come out darker so it would've stood out more than it does. This is what I originally wanted:

This is what we ended up with. I liked it...I just I wasn't satified with the coloring of the accent tile (the tile is actually the same as the above. The overall coloring just looks different because of the lighting I took the pictures in).

This the finished product after many headaches, arguments and some disappointments:

So there you have it...our finished bathroom. There are still some things I'd like to do such as add a piece of artwork in it but that will come after I find it.

Stay tuned for more blogging...it should come more frequently now since we upgraded our home computer and it's SUPER fast now, thanks to my brother-in-law! :)

Until the next time...

It's fabulous! Very spa-like! I wish we had double sinks. That'll be a must in our next place. :)

I am sad that your guy isn't recommendation-worthy. We need to remodel our bathrooms!

i really like the tile -- so pretty!

our new place only has one full bath as well (ugh) and we're trying to see if/where we could add a 3/4 bath. until then, we're having to just deal with what it is currently, which is just okay. i'd love to eventually have it spa-like, kinda like your new bathroom!

I've been bad about blogging lately, too. Even worse about giving comment love. Turning a new leaf today. :) I love your new bathroom! Like others have been saying it looks very spa like. Congrats!

VERY nice, Jolene! The houses in that area are tiny. (I know since I grew up there) You did a great job with the room you had. It looks like a bathroom you'd see in a model home.

The remodel is very pretty, even if you weren't completely happy with your contractor :)
