2007...IS THE YEAR ALREADY JINXED?

It's been yet another long break since I've last posted. A lot has been going on, so much so that I just haven't had the time, nor the desire to post. A newly married girlfriend of mine (Hi Alyssa!) found my blog and mentioned to me that I needed to update my blog so in order to keep everyone updated on my life, here I am again.

The year started off well in the beginning. I had another business trip to New York the first week of January, except this time my husband came along for the trip! It was amazing and I finally got to experience New York like a true tourist. We had the weekend to ourselves while we were there and we got to do so much in the week that we were there. We went to Times Square, the Empire State Building, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, had dinner at Serendipity, went to a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden and got to see some friends and family in between. It was nothing short of fabulous. Here are a few pictures of our trip...

I can't wait to go back with him in the Spring sometime!

After that trip, we didn't do much. I've been very busy at work which is good I suppose. I had mentioned on a previous post that my sister was pregnant again with her second son. Truth be told, my sister and her husband had been trying to get pregnant again for nearly three years so needless to say, when we found out they were expecting again, we were all thrilled! Our normal conversations involved the new bundle of joy we would soon have with us and we were already imagining him running around with all the other kids in our family. My eldest sister, my mother and I were busily planning her shower. It wasn't going to be a grand affair but beautiful and full of love nonetheless. They had his nursery all ready to go, anticipating his arrival on the 1st of March. Her pregnancy was healthy throughout and we had everything ready for her shower on Saturday, February 3rd.

On Friday, February 2nd, our lives went dark. My sister hadn't felt thr baby move in a little over a day but figured nothing was wrong. Early that Friday morning, she called her doctor and he had go in to check for the baby's heartbeat. She was 8 months pregnant. When she got there, they checked for the baby's heartbeat and found nothing. The baby that they had long dreamed about, the baby that we were all longing to hold and caress, the baby that we wanted to spoil, had died in his mommy's womb. We will never know why he was taken from us but have peace knowing that he is in a better place now.

When my eldest sister called to tell me the news, I broke down at work and immediately left. We spent the day at the hospital with her and my brother-in-law. The doctor had induced her labor and at 3:03pm, baby Diego was born in silence. He was beautiful. We all held him and cried with my sister. It was the most difficult day I have ever experienced in my 28 years of living. They say that losing a child is the toughest thing any mother or father can go through. I believe this now.

The next day, my sister left the hospital with nothing in her arms but a memory box. When they got home, they walked into the empty nursery and cried together. It was so hard. His funeral was on Friday, February 9th and it was a beautiful service. My sister has been visiting him every day since and I just pray to god and my baby nephew that my sister and my brother-in-law get through this. Baby Diego will never be forgotten. He will always be my nephew and he will always, for eternity, be loved.

A co-worker of mine lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, February 10th. This also came as a huge surprise as she was just diagnosed no more than 6 months ago. She was only 32 years old. Today, I found out that one our VP's at work lost his wife last night. It has been a very difficult year thus far. I only hope and pray that it gets better...for all of us.
