WEEKEND UPDATE AND GOOD NEWS!

I had a great weekend. I was actually home sick today though. I had a horrible headache last night and this morning, I felt it was still lingering so I decided to take a sick day. Anyhow, it was a great weekend.

Friday
My sister had planned a church service for Henry in honor of his 1 year anniversary since his surgery. We have a lot to be thankful for so this church service served as just that...a thank you to God for all of our blessings and Henry's health. After church, we joined them for dinner at a small restaurant that served El Salvadorian food. Quite delicious!

Saturday
We started off the day by cleaning our apartment. We were long overdue. So it felt great to get this place nice and clean! After that was done, I had lunch with my girlfriend Jennifer. Her and I met a few years ago, when I was browsing through the Internet and happened to stumble upon her wedding blog. After reading it, I felt compelled to sign their guestbook and every since then, we've become friends! This was only the second time we were able to meet up but I had a great time. She drove over to our place and then I drove us over to have Thai food. After that, she hung out at our place for a little while and finally got to meet my husband. After she left, Gerric said that it seemed like we had been friends for years because I seemed very comfortable with her. That made me smile. Jenn is a very sweet friend and I'm so happy we got to have lunch and catch up. We plan to do it again very soon! Thank you again Jenn!

After lunch, we relaxed for a bit and got ready to have dinner that night with our friends Mike and Ruby. It was a belated birthday celebration that they had invited me to. I was really looking forward to it. We had dinner reservations at Beso, Eva Longoria's new restaurant in Hollywood. We had pretty early dinner reservations, so we weren't lucky enough to spot any celebrities but regardless of that, I had a wonderful time! The food was delicious and I loved the decor and ambiance of the restaurant. I had heard that it wasn't receiving the best reviews but personally, I loved it and would love to go back.
Our delicious dinner...

We decided to skip dessert at Beso and headed to Red Mango, since all of us were eager to try it. It was definitely worth the wait. It's much creamier than Pinkberry. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to have it again!
After dessert, we went back to Mike and Ruby's and had some fun playing Rockband. It was only my second time playing and once again, we had a great time. Gerric was a little frustrated with the drums. He was VERY good the very first time he played but just couldn't get it the second time around...he said he simply had "beginner's luck" the first time. I beg to differ. I'm sure we'll have another chance to play and he'll be addicted all over again.

Thank you to our dear friends Mike and Ruby for a wonderful evening. I had such a great time.

Sunday
We started off our morning early and met up with our friends Kay and Steve at Urth Caffe in Santa Monica to have their amazing bread pudding. Nanette had actually introduced us to it and I had been craving it for a while now so when Kay and Steve told us they were free on Sunday morning, I was so excited! We had so much fun with them. I LOVE how Kay is developing a little bump with their little one on the way. She looks so adorable. And Steve looks so happy to be expecting a baby. He's so affectionate with Kay and rubs her belly with such joy...I can't wait until they become parents. I'm so happy for them! After Urth Caffe, we drove over to West Elm with them. I loved the store. I'm sure we'll be making more trips there very soon for decoration ideas.

After that, we headed home and I took a long nap while Gerric watched the first Laker playoff game. After that was over, we freshened up and drove to the cemetary to visit one of Gerric's very good childhood friends. I've heard about Colleen ever since I'd met Gerric but this was the first time we'd gone to visit her together. She was 16 when she was killed in a car accident. Gerric tells me he's sure they'd still be friends today if she were here. I'm sure they would be too. I was happy to have gone to pay my respects to her. I'm sure we'll be visiting more often now. After the cemetary, we ran errands at Pier One and the grocery store. Then we finally headed back home.

Whew! It was a busy weekend. So here we are again. As for the good news, there's 2 parts:

1) My best friend Coral called me last week that her and her husband Rigo are pregnant! This will be their first baby and I couldn't be happier for them! Gerric and I are visiting them 4th of July weekend after an overdue visit and I'm hoping she has a belly by then too. I'm so excited!!!

Here we are at her Bachelorette party in 2005:

2) It's sort of like being pregnant. You don't want to tell anyone until you're sure it's safe. No, we're not pregnant but we are in escrow!!! We opened escrow on the 8th of this month and our loan was officially approved on Friday! It's a small house but we're in love with it and I'm sure we'll be very happy there in the years to come. We do have some work to do on it but nothing we can't handle. The process has been very easy for us thankfully and if all goes well, we'll be getting the keys early May! We're so excited!!! After looking at nearly 40 homes, we finally found "the one."
Have a great week everyone! I'll leave you all with this. Happy 4 month birthday Adam! I love you!!!

Ahhhhh, congrats on the new house! I can't wait to hear all about your homeowner adventures. And it's kinda like being pregnant - you have a whole new addition to your family that costs a lot and requires lots of attention. ;)

Cogratulations on the house! It looks really nice, Is it in the Lakewood/Long Beach area? Just curious because it looks very similar to the Lakewood house I grew up in.

Hi Jolene,

I answered your question on my blog, but I grew up in a house on Del Amo Blvd between Woodruff and Bellflower. I lived there from 2nd grade on. My parents still live there.

The house is a great find. Congrats! Nothing like owning your own house and doing it up yourself.
The food looks delicious. Beso seems to be a must-try place.
