18 Months of fun...

Dearest Abigail,

I’ve owed you a letter for the past few months but then I decided that I would save it for your 18 month birthday, because it’s quite a big one. I cannot believe my baby girl is a year and a half! Where has the time gone?!? You are such a big girl now and although your daddy and I have enjoyed every single stage with you, I have to say this age is the most fun we have ever had with you. You are SUCH a joy to be around Abbie. We prayed to have a baby for so long and we have truly been blessed with your life. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t thank God for this beautiful, expressive little girl that I am lucky to call my daughter. Whenever I need an attitude adjustment or I’m having an off day, I think of you and I am instantly humbled. You are such a gift. And I hope your daddy and I show you every day just how grateful we are that we were chosen to be your parents. I look at you and realize that you are not my tiny newborn anymore, you are my sweet growing toddler and although it’s incredibly bittersweet, I am so happy that you are growing and learning each day.
You have changed so much in the past 3 months. You are your own little person. You no longer need mommy and daddy to hold you every place we go; in fact, you usually prefer to walk on your own. But I still marvel in the times you gently lay your head on my shoulder when we’re saying our prayers each night. I hope and pray that there will be a part of you that will always need us Abbie.Because your daddy and I will always need you.
In March, right around my birthday, we experienced our very first earthquake since you were born. Thankfully, you never reacted to any of them. It was harder for me to deal with them because this time, I realized that you were our responsibility and all that mattered was that we protected you. I hope the 3 of us are always together when an earthquake strikes and I pray that all of us, our families included, always come out safely.
These days you are LOVING strawberries. I’ve always wanted you to love fruit and strawberries specifically and oh boy, do you ever! You can eat a whole bag of strawberries in one sitting! I love that Summer is on the horizon and that I will get to feed you all this sweet, delicious fruit all season long!
You are also obsessed these days with Minnie Mouse. Your love for her started at Mom’s house. Each morning, you watch The Mickey Mouse Club cartoons and you get so excited every time you see her. Your face lights up and you scream “Mimi! Mimi! Mimi!” It’s the sweetest thing.
You also seem to be cooperating more when mommy and daddy want to take a picture of you. You are such a little ham and keep asking us to take more pictures. I love it!
You know your body parts! You know where your mouth, nose, ears, eyes, tummy and toes are and recently, your daddy taught you where your knees and hands were.  It’s incredible watching you retain something and learning new things.
Your vocabulary consists of these new words:
-          Abuelo/Abuela (for grandma and grandpa)
-          Side (for when you want to go inside or outside)
-          Ball
-          Cat
-          Five (when you ask for high fives)
-          Book (which you still love!)
-          Snack
-          Agua (water)
-          Hi
-          Baby
-          Shoes
-          Socks
-          Muchacha (girl)
-          Bath
-          Butterfly (although it sweetly sounds like firefly)
-          Toes
-          Down (when you ask us to put you down)
-     Please (which you are still learning the true meaning of but you're getting better at it)
The relationship you have with your daddy is something I love to watch. He adores you Abbie and we are so lucky to have him. You and him have SO much fun together. You love to climb on top of him. He would do anything for you. You are one lucky little lady to have him as your daddy. He’s the best.
I can’t believe in just 6 short months, your daddy and I will have a 2 year old daughter. We can’t wait to see what the next month has in store for you…I hope and pray it’s all wonderful things. We love you Abbie...so, so much.
