Panama...here I come

It's 9:42pm right now. Normally, I'd be getting ready for bed. Tonight, I'm killing some time before heading to the airport. I have a 2am flight tonight to Panama. Not looking forward to it. Luckily, I;ve never had problems sleeping on a plane so I hope tonight is no exception since once I land there (10:30am Panama time), I need to check into my hotel and go straight to work. Not fun.

This weekend, however, was very fun. It started off with a rocky work week. Specifically, Wednesday was a bad day. I left for work early that morning. It was still dark out and it was even a little foggy that morning. I had just merged into the freeway and made my way to the fast lane. All of a sudden, I felt that I had hit something. I hadn't seen anything on the road so I didn't think much of it. My car started feeling weird so I turned off the radio. I heard something dragging on my tire! I looked in my rear view mirror and saw sparks! That's when I freaked out. I pulled over as fast as I could and turned on my emergency lights. As I was merging over, I almost lost control of the car. The sound I heard was so horrific. When I came to a stop, I heard and felt something break. I was so scared at that point. When I got off, the first thing I looked for was a flat tire since I thought that was what made the most sense. My tires were fine. I looked at the front of my car and saw this...

Apparently, what I had hit was a long metal rod that was laying on the freeway! When I tried to pull it out, I realized it was lodged in there tight. I went back inside my car and called my husband, who was on his way to the train station already. When I told him what had happened, he immediately turned around and came to get me. I was scared just waiting for him since it was still dark and I was nervous someone would hit me on the side of the freeway since the spot I had pulled over wasn't very wide. He got there about 15-20 minutes later and had me take his car to work that day. He decided to work from home and figure out how to get this rod out of my car. Luckily, opening the hood and some tough maneuvering, my husband was able to get the rod out. It's a miracle that it didn't puntire anything in my engine. The damage is all cosmetic which means I was just left with a hole and some pretty major scratches in my car. *sigh* Sad but I was just happy it wasn't worse.

Friday night, my mood turned around for me as Gerric and I met up with some very good friends of ours. It had been awhile since we'd hung out with Alyssa and her husband, along with our other friends Barry and Amanda. We had dinner in Belmont Shores and later grabbed some coffee at Starbucks. It was a lovely evening...one I'm hoping we can do again very soon.

Saturday was my best friend's baby shower. Coral and her husband moved to Nevada a few years ago. They were married one month before my husband and I were married and she and her husband are expecting their first bundle of joy in just 5 short weeks! It was such a beautiful shower. Coral was glowing. She looks so precious with her belly. I'm so excited to meet their little boy. I know they are both going to be wonderful parents.

Everything about the shower was amazing...from the food to the company. I'm just sad that she and I didn't get to spend more time together. It was a short trip for them...they headed back home early this morning. I can't believe that the next time I see her she's going to be a mommy!

I had offered to buy the cake for her and I was very happy with how it turned out.

Today my husband and I lounged around the house for most of the day. We finally headed out around 3pm and ran a couple errands. Since we are annual Disneyland pass holders, we decided on a whim to go to there for a couple hours today just to ride the Haunted Mansion before the Halloween theme is over. We were starving when we got there so we headed straight to Hungry Bear restaurant, a place Gerric and I always used to eat at when we were dating and had annual passes. We were only there for a couple hours but it was a perfect way to spend the afternoon before my business trip tonight. :)

So there you have it. I'm headed to the airport in about an hour and a half. Have a great week and please wish me safe travels! Thanks everyone! :)

Safe travels, Jolene!

We were at Disneyland too this weekend, but no Haunted Mansion - Babito doesn't like that ride.

Glad it was just the car that got damaged and not you! Now for this Panama trip...I know it's just work, but what a cool place to be heading to!
